Wamud has painted Nayuyungi – the first people. They were the first humans and are the ancestors of the present day binninj (Aboriginal people from the region). A female is depicted here carrying a woven fibre dilly bag, a male carrying a stone axe and a child in the left corner.
Nayuyungi learned everything they needed to know from mimi spirits who taught them many things, such as bush skills, hunting, food collection, ceremony and painting.
This plate was created by Wamud in 2006 and was printed after his passing in 2009. The print has been authenticated with the Injalak Arts & Crafts Association Inc stamp on the back bottom left corner.
