Wamud has depicted Kalawan (sand monitor or goanna), a reptile that is frequently caught and eaten on his homeland near the Mann River in Western Arnhem Land. They have white meat similar in texture to chicken. The goannas lay eggs from which their young hatch.
This plate was created by the artist in 2006 and was printed and signed by the artist prior to his passing. It has also been authenticated with the Injalak Arts & Crafts Association Inc stamp on the back bottom left corner.
