Artwork Story

This story is about dhonyin (filesnake). This is a Gålpu clan design. In the middle is the billabong with lilies growing on the surface. This is rapiny monuk (freshwater). The trees are Nåmbarra (Melaleuca). The Nåmbarra are sung and danced in bunggul (ceremony) by Djapu and Dhupi Djapu clan. The Yolngu connection with Djapu and Gålpu clans are Måri (grandfather) Gutharra (grandchild) relationship. File snake is also a good food source in NE Arnhem Land, when the water goes down low the snake hides in the muddy areas. It is harmless, the old people would catch the snake and bight the head to kill it than cook it on in the fire with Gundirr (termite nest).
