The Wayawu River runs its course in to Blue Mud Bay ( Gulf of Carpentaria). It travels through the artist’s inland Magnalili estate and her husbands estate at Dhuruputjpi. Galuma has depicted the river traveling further out to sea through her rendition of those deeper salt waters that are shared with other Yirritja clans of the region, namely the Madarrpa and the Dhalwangu.
Sacred song cycles narrate all manner of water movement relating especially to tidal actions and the mixing of both salt and fresh. Mythologies testify to sub sea freshwater fonts and freshwater river currents.
