Mercia was born in the Moyle river area. In her youth she travelled widely between the Moyle and the Daly River mainly on foot. Shortly after world war II Mercia and her family settled close to what is now the Nauiyu Community (Formally Daly River Mission). Mercia had long experience as a peanuts, cashews and tobacco plantations. Mercia is the oldest member of her family of very gifted artists. She still paints and produces dillybags out of the Merrepen Fibre (Sand palm). She recently started doing etchings. Mercia lives in the Nauiyu community at Daly River and works at Merrepen Arts
