Susan Bonal is a member of the Gumatj clan. She lives in Galiwin’ku, the main community of Elcho Island, with her family, and is an avid painter.
Regular themes in her artwork include the animal totems of her ancestors and the natural elements of Arnhem Land.
Until discovering printmaking in early 2009 much of Susan’s artwork included paintings on canvas.
As a printmaker Susan has continued to depict her animal totems, but has also begun exploring images from her clan, including the Gumatj clan fire diamond.
