Designs by Bobbie Ruben are mostly drawn from the tropical environments where she has lived. Her continuously printed textile lengths are expressive of the 1950’s design ethic, using muted yet bold colours, large, simple shapes and line and printed on heavy weight linens, hemps and cotton canvas.
Bobbie Ruben is a practicing screen printer, textile artist and printmaking lecturer at Charles Darwin University in Darwin. She also works alongside Indigenous artists in the Northern Territory with whom she conducts remote and on campus workshops. In 2001 Bobbie established her own screen-printing design label Speargrass Designs and has won several prizes and awards for her work.
