KRET KO’O NATAM KRET ANA motif depicts a series of large isosceles triangular pattern which encloses a smaller pattern of zig zags. Amarasi motifs combine variations of two basic forms; the kret (isosceles triangular patterns) or the kait (hooks). The generic motif design structure consists of an outer design which encases a smaller inner design, referred to as a ‘natam’ meaning inner box. The combination of outer and inner forms reflects the system of complimentary opposites (duality) that underpins the culture of the Atoin meto people. This motif was traditionally worn by commoners in the Kingdom of Amarasi.
