New South Wales based Printmaker Monique Auricchio completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (printmaking) at the Canberra School of Art. She lived in Darwin from 1997 – 2007 where she worked as a printer and later Workshop Manager at Northern Editions at Charles Darwin University.
In 2003 she began working as a practising artist/printmaker and has achieved considerable acclaim. In 2006 she won the Jacques Cadry Art Memorial Prize and was selected for the TogArt Contemporary Art Award in Darwin. Her work was included in ‘Flying Carpet: International women’s travelling print exhibition’ which toured to Switzerland, the Balkans, Spain, Luxembourg, Italy and the United States. Auricchio has held solo exhibitions in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Darwin.
Her work examines human perceptions of animals, often using shadow and dark tones to emphasise the threatening or foreboding elements of the relationship.
