NAATA NUNGURRAYI – PINTUPI
Naata Nungurrayi was born at the site of Kumil, which is west of the Pollock Hills in Western Australia, c.1932. She came into Papunya with her family on one of Jeremy Long’s government patrols. Naata began painting for the company in early 1996. Her son is Kenny Williams Tjampitjinpa, who also paints for Papunya Tula Artists. In 1999 Naata contributed to the Kintore women’s painting as part of the Western Desert Dialysis Appeal, and in 2003 she was chosen along with four other Papunya Tula Artists to have one of her paintings represented on an Australia Post international stamp.
Naata Nungurrayi was named among the Top 50 of Australia’s Most Collectable Artists in Australian Art Collector Issue 27 – January – March 2004.
