A woven bird motif, known as Kor Kase, is one of the most distinctive Amarasi textile designs. This motif was once reserved for the attire of aristocrats of the Amarasi kingdom. The Kor Kase motif represents the bird believed to have guided the founding ancestors of Amarasi in western Timor from their original home of south Belu in south central Timor. The association of this textile motif with the foundation of the Amarasi kingdom indicates its existence prior to the arrival of Dutch and Portuguese traders and colonialists in the 16th century.
