Gracie Kumbi was born in Darwin and resides at Daly River-Nauiyu Nambiyu Community. She attended the local school where the teachers taught her drawing. On completion of her primary she then went on to St John’s College in Darwin. She left St John’s to come back to the community where she started painting at the Women’s Center. Kumbi has a distinctive style that is unique to her. She creates patterns to compliment the painting. Kumbi’s three sisters are also well known artists in their own rights. She is a mentor to younger nieces and nephews. Gracie is now employed as the Indigenous Arts Coordinator at Merrepen Arts.
