Sundew, Drosera dilatatopetiolaris Sundews are small, generally annual plants that catch insects with the glandular hairs on the leaves. The long glandular hairs are capable of movement when irritated, they then trap and digest insects. The Latin genus name refers to the dewy or glistening appearance of the leaves.
There are about 60 species of Drosera in Australia and 15 species in the Northern Territory. The species depicted here is Drosera dilatatopetiolaris, it is relatively widespread in the Top End and is quite spectacular when in full leaf and flower during the late wet season.
