Artwork Story
This etching shows the one of the icons of the Kimberley region- the boab tree. Gija people of the east Kimberley often refer to boab trees as ‘bottle trees”, because of their bulbous and trunk sections.
Boab trees are an important source of bush tucker for Aboriginal people in the Kimberley. The pith or fibre in the boab nut is mixed with water and sugar bag (bush honey) and is high in vitamin C.
