The design on this fabric depicts the very beautiful lotus lily, which is found in the many billabongs around the Daly River region. The seeds from the miwulungini (lily pods) occur in large numbers in the mid dry season and may be eaten raw or roasted over coals. The roots are also eaten after roasting and used as a natural medicine, and the new leaf shoots can be eaten raw. The lotus lily is a rich and abundant food source for the Aboriginal people of Daly River.
